Well what is the best way to treat hydrocodone addiction? The simple answer to that is, don”t take it. Well with a addict, nothing is simple at first. I was told at my first NA meeting when I entered hydrocodone addiction recovery was that, “this is a simple program for complicated people”. Man I hated hearing that. Everything in my life was drama, how could anything be simple I said. Now I will admit , there is a complication when dealing with any pain medication addiction. That is anytime you take , lets say vicodin, you will experience the worst hydrocodone side effects and the worst one is hydrocodone addiction withdrawal. As i discussed in a earlier post “Nasty Hydrocodone Withdrawal ” always make sure to consult a medical doctor before deciding to detox off of pain medication. It is posses very serious health threats to your body and should not be taken lightly. With that said, after proper detox treatment is given, and after the hydrocodone addict enters recovery, the best way to not get high is (drum roll please). Don’t get high…. Remember that the pill is not going to put a gun to your head and make you take it. Simple huh? Recovery begins with the addict. They are the one to put in the work. One of the greatest efforts a addict will ever do is make that decision to do nothing. To not act on those obsessions to use a vicodin, lortab, lorcet, or what ever the drug of choice. Without that choice no amount of hydrocodone addiction treatment will work, even in the best hospitals and rehabs in the world. I have learned from my experiences and by watching others that not force in the world other than death will stop a addict from getting high when they choose too. They may not be able to get it right then, but they will not stop until they do. If they finally had enough, then treatment has a chance of working and recovery is then possible. There are many great rehabs in the world. To me the best place to recover was in a 12-step meeting. All I can share is what worked best for me. When I was going through my years of drugs use, the best thing my family ever did for me was cut me out of their life. I know it sounds hard, and it was hard to deal with at the time, but it wasn’t until they removed the cushion from under my ass that I started to become open minded towards treatment. I made them come to a point where they decided if i was going to kill myself, they where not going to watch. My family loved me very much, but everything they did to help me was actually hurting me. It made it easier for me to continue using and helped me believe that I could one day get it together. I brought them to a point to where they wouldn’t even feed me and I’m glad they did. That ultimate loneliness helped me see the need for treatment.Sometimes the best hydrocodone addiction help is to not help at all I guess.
