Anesthesia Assisted Opiate Detoxification Info

AAROD is a pretty intense, but quick way to detox while skipping a lot of hydrocodone addiction withdrawal. This method detoxifies the body off most of the active opiates reportedly in under 6 hours or so. This procedure should only be done under the care of a skilled anesthesiologist working with nurses in a specialized treatment facility. Make sure your hospitail or treatment center has staff trained in Anesthesia Assisted Opiate Detoxification.

It has been reported that AAROD has greater success than your typical drug detoxification treatments. The hydrocodone addict’s symptoms are greatly lessened because he or she is put to sleep for most of the withdrawal periods being stabilized the whole time. Most of the time the hospital stay is much shorter than regular drug detox, enabling the patient to return home to family and work as soon as possible. You can read more about the actual procedure here drug detox and AAROD.

My thoughts on this kind of drug detox are that the addict must be very careful upon release from treatment. After the the drug addict is released it is a very dangerous time. Being spared a lot of the pain from the withdraws, the vicodin or oxicotin addict might feel that he or she is ok, and does not see the need to continue a aftercare treatment. This kind of thinking will get a addict high again, and back to the point before they started Anesthesia Assisted Opiate Detoxification. I have had 2 people I know go through this type of detox with great success, but both fell into the pattern I just explained.

If you are a friend or family member of someone about to go through this type of treatment, be sure to have a good post detox plan. The doctor performing the procedure can recommend a local rehabilitation program in your area the can handle aftercare for the addict. The best result will most likely occur if the hydrocodone addict is put immediately placed in a drug treatment center. Otherwise the cycle will start all over again.

    thanks for the post.
I am all about finding the best way to adminster a safe detox. What are the stats compared to something like Suboxone or Subutex?

Not sure Mike. I don’t really have a medical background, I just try to discuss those type of things as they relate to recovery. Personal I think if I would of used those types of detox treatments it would of spared me alot of pain I needed. My brother had great success with Sub, but he had a loratab addiction. People I know that used methadone etc to detox from heroin , stayed on it or went back to H. I totally see the need of safe detox, its just a fine line sometimes from safe, and being a crutch imo.

Yes motivation is really important. Unfortunately motivation for a addict like me usually involves pain
